The Project

The MINA (Mobilità Integrata e Navigazione Assistita) project is developed within the framework of Spoke 6 of the National Centre for Sustainable Mobility (Centro Nazionale di Mobilità Sostenibile – CNMS), an initiative under the Italian PNRR – Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza. Spoke 6 is coordinated by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) and focuses on the topic “Connected and Autonomous Vehicles”.

The MINA project aims to develop an innovative multi-platform (iOS and Android) mobile application designed to assist with vehicle driving in the Smart City environment. The app will feature a range of functionalities tailored to support both autonomous and manual driving modes, as well as the seamless transitions between them (i.e., take over). The app will also be prepared to handle bi-directional data communication in order to enable the main V2X protocols and ensure optimal integration of the vehicle within Smart Cities infrastructures. With a focus on optimal ergonomics and usability, the app will integrate advanced features that ensure flexibility and adaptability across various mobility scenarios.

The Objective of the Project

The project aims to develop a user-centric, ergonomic, and visually appealing mobile application capable of reliable real-time data communication for both manual and autonomous driving modes in different scenarios.

The app emphasizes modularity and scalability, ensuring adaptability to future mobility scenarios within urban and extra-urban contexts and seamless communication between the vehicle and the Smart City infrastructures (V2X communication). Thanks to the support of the Spoke 6 leader UNIMORE, it will be possible to thoroughly test and validate the MINA app in a real environment and feed it with real data, within the “Modena Automotive Smart Area – MASA” in the city centre of Modena
